Our Immunization Philosophy

At East Cobb Pediatrics, we prioritize your child’s health through vaccinations, aligning with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Vaccines are extensively researched and have been one of the single greatest advances in preventive medicine.

As strong proponents of childhood vaccinations, we believe they are an essential part of pediatric care for your child as well as the rest of our patients and ask that you please review and sign our vaccine policy. While we respect differences in beliefs and opinions, families who choose not to vaccinate their children at all may find their beliefs better aligned with another pediatric practice.

Shielding Against Influenza

Each year, influenza, or the flu, poses a health risk to children and adults alike. The seasonal flu vaccine is a vital tool in preventing the spread of this contagious illness, limiting its severity and reducing its potential complications. At East Cobb Pediatrics, we offer flu vaccinations to help safeguard your child’s health during flu season. Our team is dedicated to ensuring your child’s protection against this seasonal threat.

Once your child is 6 months old, they should receive their first flu vaccine. They will need a booster shot 30 days after the first dose if they are under 8 years of age and getting the flu vaccine for the first time. We recommend that they receive the flu vaccine every flu season thereafter, preferably in October.

Common side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever, or fussiness. Serious side effects are extremely rare. We’ll talk about potential side effects before vaccination.

It’s important to stay on track with vaccinations. However, if your child has missed a dose, we recommend you call us to determine when you need to come in for that missed vaccine. If your child has missed multiple vaccinations, we will help you create a catch-up schedule. Delaying vaccines increases the risk of your child being susceptible to preventable diseases, so we want to make sure they’re protected as soon as possible.
